Despite economic woes, baseball product sales strong

Recession. What recession? The sale of baseball swing training products and other baseball gear for Little Leaguers continues to be strong even as the economy struggles. Just ask the folks at SwingCoaching.com. The site is seeing an increase in its recommended products as well as all the other products that are used by Little League baseball and softball players throughout the country.

Products such as the Batters’ Edge, which is sold on the SwingCoaching site, are doing extremely well even as other industries are seeing decreases in sales.

According to the National Sporting Goods Association, sales of baseball gloves and bats have consistently climbed over the past five years. The number of metal baseball bats sold in the United States went from 2.1 million in 2003 to 2.3 million in 2007, and 5.1 million baseball gloves were sold in 2007 compared to 4.5 million in 2003. Sales of the Batter’s Edge baseball swing coaching product have also held steady since the site was launched earlier this year.

So, why all the baseball stuff? The need for baseball swing training products remains strong because parents still want the best equipment for their kids despite the increasing cost of other goods and services. This includes the cost of playing on a team, the cost of purchasing a uniform, the cost of equipment, and additional expenditures such as team pictures, trophies, travel and snacks. With the right equipment, though, parents can greatly improve their children’s softball or baseball swing coaching experience and provide a skill that will spill over into other areas of their life.
